Digital Marketing Direction

May 15, 2013   //   by Justinpiontek   //   Blog, Uncategorized  //  No Comments

I recently had the opportunity to team up with DMD based out of Dallas. They were just getting off the ground when they contacted me and needed a logo. They wanted to go for something very clean and modern; above is the final logo.

Digital Marketing Direction has experience in political, news, retail, and nonprofit digital marketing. They have the solutions to your modern marketing needs, no matter what you’re marketing online. Their number one goal is increasing your conversion rate at a lower cost so you can always be sure to get the best results!

One of the projects that I have been working on with them is an email campaign for a retail company called Adeline Adeline features a selection of constantly changing, quality and fashion forward finds at refreshingly affordable prices for those with a sharp sense of style. Highlighting a range of independent designers from around the world, Adeline carries vibrant prints, sophisticated silhouettes, bold jewelry, funky footwear and even home accessories like whimsical glass lamps and soothing candles.

Below are a few of the emails that I designed. Stay in touch to see what they have coming up!

The last few weeks have been a little hectic for me. I moved into a new place and everything went smoothly although it can through you off your game a little bit. I have been working steadily but instead of showing you that stuff I decided to go into archives from some cool stuff that I made while working at my last job.

LexusThis was part of a graphic that was used in a Lexus giveaway. I photoshopped the flames around the photo of the car that I took, and made it look like it was in motion. It was a fun project and drew a lot of attention to the promotion. When I started this, I didn’t think it was actually going to work, but sometimes you have to go beyond what you think is possible and it will usually work out.

Creating a Logo

Apr 22, 2013   //   by Justinpiontek   //   Blog  //  2 Comments

Today I will show you some of processes that go into creating a logo. This time I worked with Conversion Strategies, a consulting business that assists their clients with digital strategies to increase web conversions (sign ups, sales, social following, traffic, etc).

They were originally looking for a simple logo with clean lettering but would also like to incorporate what the business does… their first thought was to include a beveled button somehow, second thought was to include a numerator & denominator concept because conversions are simply increasing your numerator or decreasing denominator.

After some thought I came up with idea of using a power button to show that their company will help power up your web conversions. Below are a few of my first proofs. ConversionStrategies_1_website

This one has the power button with arrow to show the full conversion rate of the company. Although the arrows point at each, so that didn’t make much sense.

This time I removed the power button and it ended up looking to much like a recycling symbol.

Then sense they wanted a beveled look, I sent this option. He was really looking for the beveled button look but in my opinion beveled logos are not cool anymore. After a few more renditions of these logos they decided that they wanted to see the first power symbol combined with some sort of button. Below is what I came up with and what was chosen as the final.

I ended up totally dropping the orange color and giving it that chrome power button look (like the apple power button). This is a very condensed description of the design process but I get a lot of questions on how I work with clients ideas and wanted to show that there is always a way to compromise and in the end, both sides are happy with the turn out. Some times people have an idea that in their head looks good to them but on paper it just doesn’t work and sometimes they have no idea at all. I am happy to work with both.

What do you think? Which logo would you have chosen?

Brown County State Park

Apr 16, 2013   //   by Justinpiontek   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Sometimes spontaneity is a must when you’re a cyclist. This past weekend my parents and I decided to take a trip to the Brown County State Park in Indiana. With spring not springing, especially in Wabeno by my parents where they are still getting snow, we needed to get away and ride some mountain bikes. Talking to my parents Friday morning on the phone I mentioned to them about the trails, by noon they were on their way.

The trails there were awesome, and my new S-Works epic was perfect. I was a little unsure about the twist shift on the XX1 but it was like second nature after 5 mins of riding. We got in some good riding both Saturday and Sunday including some black diamond stuff that was pretty intense. Good skills practice after a long winter off basement and pugs training.

Now that I got my fix of riding, I can come back to work refreshed.

2013 Season

Apr 9, 2013   //   by Justinpiontek   //   Blog  //  No Comments

With the official start to my 2013 season just around the corner, I wanted to share some news. This year I will be riding for the Titletown Flyers. They are a really cool laid back group of people that I have gotten to know pretty good throughout the last few years. Big thanks to them for hooking me up this year.

Specialized also really came through for me this year and I will be riding the Sworks Epic 29er this year. If everything gets sorted out with this whole UCI / USAC forbidden race thing you will see me out at all of the local races and hopefully even some Pro XCTs.

Here is a link to a press release from the Show Air guys that I thought was pretty good about their opinion on the rule

Titletown has a huge network of people with all types of skills, one is Andy Wagner who has started his own custom frame building and I was giving the chance to design his jerseys and an EZ-up. Hopefully you will see alot of these kits out on the courses this year and be sure to stop by at the tent to say hi.
